1st demo tapes recorded in 1982 and produced by Joan Jett ; Now what the hell can I say about this record ? It's Poison Idea... raw...powerful...essential...Dave G.
great stuff! thanks! do you know how many pressings there were? i originally thought 4 but the one you have says 5th on it. oh and i saw their pick your king 7" on a website for sale, $20, but the guy never contacted me back!! man i want that record so much.
Zach: A friend of mine told me he wanted to get rid off his 3rd press blue vinyl "Pick your King" 7". He hates ebay and is a nice chap - I'll ask him if he still has it and if he wants to let it go for a special price. I think to remember there were five pressing from "Darby Crash". If you wanna see a first press, check my blog :-)
i heard that flat black records are released a whole bunch of early poison idea stuff. but i think their piling a whole bunch of songs on an lp. i hate when they do that. i want it to be in the same format as was originally pressed. it's like the recent Willfull Neglect re-isses. they put both their lps onto one lp. and inserts of the original covers. now i don't want it. oh well.
Yeah I agree Zach. I feel that way about Black Flag also. I like to listen to each 7" individually. I don't like when they compile it all together on one disc especially a band like BF who had so many singers lol.
I have the Willful Neglect re-release and I wasn't very impressed with it musically to be honest.
Zach , It sounds just like the first record honestly. Vocals are a touch cleaner. It sounds good to me now, maybe I just wasn't in the mood when I played it for the first time.
Well not exactly like the first record. It does have a bit of that Man Sized Action feel to it at times if you have heard them before. There is a little more experimentation going on mixed in with the straight up punk/hardcore style.

ReplyDelete$20 for Pick Your Kings sounds too good to be true man. I honestly have no idea how many pressings were made of this demo 7".
ReplyDeleteyeah it does, but it was the american leather pressing, but still. thanks anyway.

The Joan Jett note is a joke, of course.
ReplyDelete"The Joan Jett note is a joke, of course"...believe what you want Fred. I choose to believe the Joan really did produce these songs :P.
ReplyDeletespeaking of Joan Jett did anyone else see that terrible Runaways movie.
haha no. how bad was it?
ReplyDeleteIt was so bad that watching made me fell uncomfortable.
ReplyDeletehaha oh. i think i'll pass.
ReplyDeleteThe "Joan Jett" production credit is an cheeky homage to her because she produced The Germs (GI) L.P........through I'm sure y'all know that already.

ReplyDeletethanks, i was hoping they didn't go that way but oh well. thanks!
ReplyDeleteZach, if you like the first Lp you will like the second. If you didn't know this Lp contained 2 individual records you would never know.
ReplyDeletehaha oh ok. so it's just a little bit different. thanks.
ReplyDeleteA very little different hahaha. I need to listen to these more before I try to explain how they sound lol.
