Damage - Off The Board - Live CBGB - Celluloid Records 1987
Fast, aggressive, raging untypical NY Hardcore. Mike Kirkland from Damage would later become one of the founding members of NYC legends Prong. Damage really is an over looked jewel in my opinion so if you've never heard them before I suggest you prepare to be blown away...Dave G.
1919 - Machine Lp Red Rhino Records 1983
I posted the 1919 Cry Wolf 12" last week and I figured I would follow it up with this their first Lp. Enjoy Erich, Chris and Brother D since you seem to be the only people who cared about my original 1919 post lol...Dave G.

Wargasm - Why Play Around ( Profile / Rock Hotel 1988
I always enjoyed Wargasm's straight forward no bullshit working class style of Heavy Metal, and their knack for hitting you upside the head with crashing wave upon wave of straight up heavy riffing. Give this one a listen and if you like it then also check my older posts to grab a copy of their "Satan Stole My Lunch Money" demo that contains four demo versions of songs that also appear on this their debut Lp.

Dorsal Atlantica - Dividir & Conquistar ( Heavy Records 1988 )
Ok, I wasn't going to do another post this week, however this record showed up in my mailbox yesterday and I just couldn't resist sharing it with everyone.
I'll admit I had no idea who Dorsal Atlantica was until a few weeks ago when Erich over at Good Bad Music For Bad Bad Times posted a very rare 2 song 7" by DA. Anyway, I downloaded those 2 tracks hit play and immediate fell in love with these guys, and started scouring the net to see what records I could purchase. What I ultimately decided to buy is this Lp we have right here. The Lp contains 8 songs 2 of which are re-recorded versions of the tracks from the 7" Erich posted over on his blog. I guess what I like about DA is that they sound so un-American to me. I mean they are on one hand a typical 80's thrash band but on the other hand they have put a unique spin on thrash metal, almost like they are riffing in reverse or they somehow took how I interpret thrash metal and flipped it on it's head or something along those lines. This record makes me wish I had looked beyond Sepultura and had paid more attention to the South American scene back in the day. Are there any other SA bands that I need to hear ?
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this Lp as much as I do...Dave G.
P.S. There are 2 versions of this Lp out there, one was recorded with english vocals, however the one I am presenting is the original sung in Portugese.

Killing Joke - Nervous System / Turn To Red 1979
First up is Nervous System which brings Fugazi immediately to mind. Give that track a listen and tell me you can't imagine a teenage Ian MacKaye sitting in his bedroom spinning this Killing Joke record. The b-side Turn To Red brings a touch of dub to the proceedings. Overall this is a real good record and I figured I would post some KJ since I mentioned them in my 1919 post from a few days ago...Dave G.

Pariah - Without A Trace / Learning Process 7" Poshboy
Recorded in the early 80's and released in 1991 on Posh Boy. The music is exactly what you would expect from this label which is excellent early 80's hardcore punk.

1919 Cry Wolf 12" 1983 Abstract Records
A friend made me an awesome mix cd of 80's post punk and dark wave type stuff recently and I really liked the 1919 track he put on the cd. Anyway, being the record nerd that I am, I'm currently hunting down the original vinyl for many of the bands he put on the cd, and the first record I scored was this one by 1919. I guess the most immediate comparison would be Killing Joke... I don't know what else to say except that I really like dark moody 80's music, and I hope you do too...Dave G.

Raven - Break The Chains / The Ballad of Marshall Stack 1983 Neat Records
Ah Raven...a guilty pleasure...maybe ? I loved Raven when I was younger or at least I loved the All For One Lp and Rock Until you Drop Lp. Well, here I am at 43 years old listening to Raven and feeling a little dirty. I mean the first song on this 7" Break The Chains is an all time favorite of mine, but if this is one of my favorite Raven songs then I'm not so sure the aforementioned full length Lp's are going to stand the test of time. Maybe I'll just listen to the Stay Hard Lp, that was a real classic...NOT !!! Man I felt dirty before, now I feel completely disgusting for speaking in anthraxanese.

Evergreen s/t ep 1992 Self Destruct records
Awesome record that deserves to be heard so I moved it back to the front page. I recently picked up a cd discography of Evergreens music from Noise Pollution records and I highly recommend the cd to everyone.
I picked this one up around 1994 right in the middle of the whole emo thing that was going on. Honestly, I thought it was that whiny Evergreen from California, but boy I couldn't have been more wrong. The Evergreen we have here is actually from Louisville, Ky . Now I know you are thinking 1992-1994 Louisville, KY...shit this must sound like Slint or Bitch Magnet etc, but you could not be more wrong. What we have here are 5 pretty ripping punk /hardcore type songs. I honestly think this one stands the test of time so give it a listen. Also, check out the little Voi Vod part at the end of track 2. Ok, I am going to shut the hell up now, just listen and decide for yourselves....peace.

Helstar - Burning Star - Combat Records 1984
Here's an old favorite from my teen years. You can't go wrong with the dueling guitars and banshee screams that are burned into this wax..."Going down in fire, flames are getting higher !!!

The Box - No Time To Talk 12" 1983 Go Disc Records
I posted a 7" by these guys awhile back and no one cared so I figured I would give you 5 more songs to ignore. This is a record that I love because it sounds very frantic, urgent and disjointed, but it still manages to hold a groove that will work it's way under your skin if you give it the chance...Dave G.

Message FromAmerica - Hardcore Has Come of Age compilation - Urinal Records 1985
Somewhat obscure old school hardcore compilation featuring cuts by Black Out, Mental Abuse,Seizure,Agnostic Front, Violent Image and Suburban Flashback...Apparently 500 of these were released and all are on blue vinyl. Pretty good listen overall...
