No Mercy - Widespread Bloodshed /Love Runs Red -- Suicidal Records 1987

Part of me thoroughly enjoys this record while part of me feels the whole affair is a bit corny 20+ years after the fact. Luckily the part of me that thoroughly enjoys this record trumps the later. For those of you who have somehow never heard this I'll describe it as Suicidal Tendencies hahaha later Dave G.

None of The Above - N.O.T.A - Moscow 7" 1984 Unclean Records

Classic 4 song 7 " featuring shouted vocals, tough guitar and tight quick drumming. An absolute essential punk / hardcore relic so check it out...Dave G.

Welcome To Venice Compilation - Suicidal Records 1985

Classic Venice Beach CA punk rock comp featuring 5 bands and 9 songs where every song sounds like Suicidal Tendencies lol.

Okay, so there wasn't a lot of variety in the Venice beach sound, but every song on this compilation still rips in my opinion. Anyone have a copy of the Los Cycos demo they could give me ? MP3's would be fine...Dave G.

Chastain - Mystery of Illusion - 1985 Shrapnel Records

Found this Lp in a used bin this past weekend. I always dismissed Chastain because I thought he was another Yngwie style wanker, but having listened to this record a few times now I must admit that this is much better than I had anticipated and Leather is a ripping vocalist...Dave G.

Battalion of Saints - Fighting Boys 12" - Nutron Records 82

I have a great idea since this record is fairly well known. How about I don't say shit about it and you guys tell me something about it or about a memory you have relating to this band or record, like getting a handjob in the parking lot at a Battalion of Saints show back in the day for example or some shit like that...Dave G.

White Cross - What's Going On ? 1983 Generic / Zero Degree Records

I was sitting here thinking about what a hot bed Richmond VA is for the current throwback hardcore punk scene when it occurred to me that I should give everyone a taste of what was really going on back in the day in Richmond VA.

In my opinion White Cross sounds like a perfect mix of Mid West hardcore and NYHC, imagine if you took Antidote and threw them in a blender with some Negative Approach. I know you serious punkers are probably familiar with this one already but in my opinion White Cross is probably not as well known in general as maybe they should be so if you have never heard them before I would recommend you download this sucker asap.

Hellhammer - Satanic Rites demo 1983

Come back metal heads...I miss you so much already lol...

Probably not my rip because it sounds too good to have been ripped by me, but I can't remember if I ripped this or not. The cover scan is all me though.

P.S Go here and buy a copy of "Only Death Is Real" An Illustrated history of HellHammer and Celtic Frost.

Young Marble Giants - Final Day 7" Rough Trade 1980

Such minimalist and delicious post punk. Go ahead and hate me for posting this I don't care. As a matter of fact if this doesn't chase enough of you away I might just post their full album to clear out the rest of you metal loving freaks...Dave G.

Code of Honor / Sick Pleasure split 12 Subterranean Records 1982

Man I love this god damn record. Seriously one of my top 5 punk records ever. There was a period in time in the late 70's early 80's where Mike Fox could do no wrong in my eyes. For those of you who may not know Code of Honor and Sick Pleasure are the same band but with different vocalist. COH bring the straight old school California punk rock style but do it better than pretty much everyone else with Johnithin Christ ( rip) leading the way on vocals. Sick Pleasure adds Niki Siki on vocals and the music takes a darker yet somehow more humorous turn in my opinion. Essential download.

P.S. There is a Code of Honor discography floating around out there that you could order from www.subterranean.org. the last I knew s no dl link for this one.

P.S.S I believe there's a blue vinyl version of this record. If anyone is selling I'm buying..Dave G.

White Pigs - s/t 7" Swinch Kwilsen Records 1984

Great hardcore punk 7" from these CT punkers. Definitely has that early NYHC sound similiar to Antidote or the Abuse. The band turned metal a few years after the release of this 7" and released a 12" on Combat Records as part of the Combat Core series.

P.S. Good Bad Music For Bad, Bad Times has the 1985 demo here

B-Team - First Product 7 " 1982 (self released)

What Is This

Now that I got that metal post out of the way I have to do a second post today so I can give you the record I really wanted to share. The first time I heard the opening song on this record "What Is This ? " I knew exactly what it was...one of the best post punk songs I have ever heard. The other 2 songs on this record are good and the track "Caught" comes closest to living up to the glory of the title track but just falls a little short. Give this a listen and put "What Is This ?" on repeat, you won't be disappointed...Dave G.

P.S. Thanks Chris for turning me on to this band and countless others over our 17 years of friendship.

Pedifile - Round 2 demo tape 1987

I haven't posted any old metal lately,so I figured I would close out the week with Arizona's Pedifile. I posted the bands first demo tape "Die A Violent Death" a while back so if you like this tape you might as well grab the first demo as well. The crazy high pitched screams from demo 1 are mostly gone this time around, but the music is still thick and heavy.

The Young And The Useless - Real Men Don't Floss - Ratcage 1982

Snotty, primitive early NYHC featuring Adrock from the Beastie Boys before he became a Beastie. There are certainly similarities to be drawn between the sounds of this 7" and the first Beasties 7" "Polly Wog Stew". It's funny but I forgot how young these kids were when they recorded this record back in 1982, I mean hell look at the back cover photo, certainly not the image that first comes to mind when you think of NYHC huh.
