The Freeze - Blood Lights / Talking Bombs - Taang 1991

Bringing this one back to the front page because these 2 songs are amazing. It's a shame they couldn't write 8 equally as good songs to round out the Misery Loves Company album, but to quote Mick Jagger, " you can't always get what you want "

Honestly, I haven't paid much attention to The Freeze over the years beyond absolutely loving the Guilty Face 7" so I wasn't expecting much from this record that I picked up for $2.00 a couple weeks ago, I mean hell this thing came out 7 years after what I had assumed was The Freeze's finest moment (Guilty Face). Anyway, I dropped the needle on this sucker almost 2 weeks ago and it has barely left my turntable. What you get are two really good catchy, melodic punk songs that remind me very much of Pegboy. Excuse me, I have to jump in my way back machine and checkout some of The Freeze's other records.

"Land of the Lost" was THE record for me when it came out. "Rabid Reaction" was very good. And that was it for me with the Freeze for many moons. In the mid 90s, I picked up this 7" and was blown away immediately. I picked up things where I left them and have since come to realize that in fact EVERY Freeze record is just solid gold to me. LOTL will always be my fave and maybe one of the 5 greatest records that I have ever heard.

Not bad at all! I think some So Cal punk band covered "Talking Bombs" a few years back.....seems to ring a bell? For me......the best Freeze stuff is on the "This Is Boston, Not L.A." comp! Land Of The Lost is a great lp as well, and I particularly love "No One's Ever Coming Home" off the "Flipside" comp.

yeah their best stuff is on the comp. "No One's Every Coming Home" was on their second lp (which i posted a while back).

Thanks for sharing this. Great stuff! The "Misery loves company" lp is really hard to find on the net.

Yeah Zach, I love these 2 songs but don't love the whole Lp. I wish the whole Lp was as good as these 2 tracks, what a great record that would be.

These 2 tracks remind of Pegboy's Strong Reaction Lp except the Pegboy Lp is pretty much a winner all the way through.

zach said...

yeah what would have been.

i've never heard of pegboy.

Pegboy strong reaction link.

Give it a listen Zach I think you'll like Pegboy if you like these Freeze tracks.

zach said...

i will, thanks!

zach said...

well i finally got the pegboy download. i actually don't like it. the vocals just don't do it for me.

Dave G said...

That's cool Zach. I like the Pegboy a lot, what did we say before "to each his own" lol...

haha, true.

The Freeze 'Misery Loves Company' is one of my most favorite albums, that Kiss or Cheap Trick should have released in the 1970s when they were still good!

I love these 2 songs, but just can't get into the rest of the record. Oh well, my loss I'm sure. I am going to link you up to Rocket Science, maybe you could link me up to your blog as well.
