Blitz - Never Surrender - Razors In The Night 7" 1982 No Futre Records

Found this 7" last week in a local antique type junk shop. There was a box of records on the floor that contained the typical crap records you normally find at flea markets and garage sales but in the back of the box was the Blitz - Voice of A Generation Lp. I put the Lp up on the counter and I continued to look around the store to see what else I could unearth when the lady at the counter called me over and said hey I have this little record back here behind the counter. The little records was this Blitz 7". The 7" had a $10 price tag on it, so I asked how much and she said it says $10 but it can't be that much, how about $1.00 each and I said Deal. So there you go 2 Blitz records for $1 a piece...Dave G.

Ludichrist - CBGB "Off The Board" Cassette 1986

Found this one in the tape box the other day and figured I'd throw it up on the blog. The sound quality is good and the music is pretty good too. I honestly haven't listened to Ludichrist in over 20 years, but when I played this sucker yesterday the songs came right back to me..."Hey waiter there's a God in my soup" .

Bad Brains - 171A Sessions Fan Club Release

New fanclub issue of four previously unreleased Bad Brains tracks. According to the liner notes, three of these songs (Black Dots/Send You No Flowers/God Save The Queen ..um I mean Redbone In The City) were recorded for a compilation that was never released, circa '81-82.The B-side song is an unreleased reggae jam. The liner notes claim these songs were taken from the original masters and 500 of these things were printed...Dave G.

Flex Lavender - Shiny Fever 7" + demo

Here's a nice little 7" that I released on Rocket Science Records back in the early - mid 90's. This is not metal, punk, emo or hardcore, but it is in my opinion a very good indie rock record that deserves to be heard. The band includes Dave Lerner who was in the band Native Nod who some of you maybe familiar with from the 90's emo scene. Flex Lavender had a female singer and definite Helium feel to their music. This 7" was recorded by my friend Alap at his Sweetwood Sound Studios in NJ. Some of you may know Alap from the band Dalek, and he has also contributed some remixes to the hydrahead label etc. Anyway I think Alap did a great job with this recording as it really has a clean sparkling production which really suits the music. I am also including 2 bonus tracks from the Flex Lavender demo tape which I am sure have not been released in any form until now, actually I am posting the complete demo and not the 7". The first 2 songs on the demo are the songs on the 7" ...I hope someone out there gives this a listen and enjoys it. I have copies of the vinyl available still if anyone is interested in getting one...Dave G.

Found another box of old metal zines in my parents attic yesterday. This is some of the cool more obscure stuff in this image. I also have about 50 issues of Metal Forces and many issues of Kerrang, Metal Hammer,Aardschok etc. I am so psyched to see and read the mighty Kick Ass and Blackthorn again..Dave G.

Cool early 80's compilation on New Underground Records. The A-Side rips with the likes of Red Cross. Descendents, Anti, Ill Will, Civil Dismay and China White, while the B-side gets a little strange with the likes of Mood of Defiance, Zurich 1916 and the Plebs while the Minutemen, Urinals and Saccharine Trust do what they do best...Dave G.

If you didn't like or could careless than move on to the next blog.It's punk, it's math rock, it's I don't give a shit just listen or don't...I honestly don't care. All I know is that I like it and I remember driving around listening to this tape with my friend Mike in the 90's and it was like pulling teeth trying to get him to burn me a copy of this thing.

Social Circkle - March Sessions 2008

Social Circkle is one of the new school punk bands that's playing a throwback style of punk rock that's reminiscent of the early 80's punk scene. This tape was limited to 100 copies and I think it was sold on tour only. As far as I know it's out of print so I figured I would share it with those of you who may care to hear it. I think this tape contains demo recordings of songs that appeared on their various 7 inches and also on their debut Lp, as well as a few songs that are unreleased elsewhere...Dave G.

Insecticide - demo 1987

Power metal/Thrash metal from Lawndale California. Good thrashy music that is pretty much what you would expect to hear from a late 80's California metal band. So if you like Exodus, Heathen, Death Angel etc then you should give this a listen if you've never heard Insecticide before.

 I.D. Under hailed from Chicago, and played a nice straight forward blend of political punk rock or as the label described it " a unique blend of political punk angst channeled through choppy rhythms of the signature Rickenbacker Guitar"... Mercyful Fate - Curse of The Pharaohs bootleg

Okay, so let's get back to some music. Here's a record I picked up probably 20 plus years ago along with the "Live From The Depths of Hell" Lp. All I know about this record is that it supposedly contains live recordings,however they sound like demo or rehearsal recordings to my ears.

I remember when I bought these records that they were on hold for Billy Milano of all people. Luckily my friend was in charge of holding these for him so I pretty easily convinced him to pull the hold for Billy Milano sticker off of the records and to sell them to me instead lol....sorry Billy...Dave G.

Aesop over at Cosmic Hearse posted up the Broken Bones - Decapitated 7" today which immediately made want to listen to this Lp "Bonecrusher".While Dem Bones is definitely my favorite Broken Bones record I think they did a hell of a good job with this crossover metal punk style record as well.

The Sound - Physical World 7" 1979 Tortch Records

Here is the first single from one of my top 5 favorite bands of any musical genre The Sound. This single was released in 1979 so they were right there for the movement from punk to 80's new wave if you will. The Sound is similar in style to future label mates Echo and The Bunnymen,however The Sound were better but for some reason they never got the attention they truly deserved. Anyway, this 7" is not my favorite thing that the band has ever released (From The Lions Mouth Lp is my favorite) but the opening song on this 7" called Cold Beat is a really good song. The music became much darker and brooding on the releases that followed this 7" and their 1st Lp Jeopardy.Honestly, the later more brooding music that they produced is really where The Sound fully hit the mark for me, but these earlier recordings are excellent as well...Dave G.

God damn this is some dirty nasty shit right here. Essential San Francisco punk rock from 1983. I got this Lp from my friend Chris a few years back, and I thought he might miss this one a little...so here you go Chris.

Slayer - Blood Pack - Def American 1990

Wow an alternate version of a song where I can actually hear a fucking difference between the original and the alt version. I actually hear a little haunting keyboard in the back ground on the alt version of Seasons In The Abyss which is pretty cool, though the OG version is still better. They also tacked on Aggressive Perfector for the 800th time Slayer used that track as a b-side. Much like the Violence Vomit Bag I remember when the liquid in the jacket used to actually be liquid, unfortunately it turned into a dried blood stain over the years...Dave G.

The Patriots - Land of The Free 12"

This record just showed up in the mail today and I can't wait to get into it. This Lp contains the original 1982 demo recordings plus the classic 1983 7" "Land of The Free" and a track off a Mystic Records compilation Lp from 1983. Ex Inferis - 2006 demo - released in 2009

This demo showed up a week or so ago in my inbox and I finally got around to giving it a listen today. So basically what we have here is my first unsolicited demo review. Ex Inferis hail from Brazil and play a style of metal that mixes a nice dose of fast straight ahead metal with some nice thick riffing and also has one foot simultaneously in hardcore. I like that they mix up the vocals a bit between a screaming sort of power violence type vocal with a deeper death metal vocal at times. I have to say I do not expect much from demo submissions, but I think this one is definitely worth your time and attention if this is your type of music, so give them a listen for yourself and feel free to comment to let the band know how you feel.

P.S. If anyone out there wants their demo reviewed feel free to send it my way, however if I like your music enough to review it then expect me to ask you to send me a free physical copy of your recording because I am a record collecting nerd after all. So Ex Inferis where is my demo lol...Dave G.
