Coldsteel - Dead By Dawn - Demo Tape 88-89

I decided to do a double Friday post today since I had to finish up my Big City posts, but I also feel like I have been neglecting the Metal heads a bit lately. Hopefully with these 2 posts I can make a little bit of each crowd happy this weekend.

Anyway, I mail ordered this demo from the band back in the late 80's. The music is pretty good ,there are some real nice riffs here and there, it actually sounds very much like Testament to my ears in a lot of places. The vocals sometimes remind me of Joey Belladonna ( Anthrax), Hetfield or maybe Death Angel or that Flotsam and Jetsam dude at times, I don't know I can't totally put my finger on it . If you’re into obscure old school thrash metal this one is worth a listen.

testament? we thought this was a Anthrax clone band, but done very very well...in fact better than what anthrax was doing by the time we heard this in 1990 or so, when it wason vinyl

You won't get an argument from with the Anthrax comparison. I definitely hear that as well.

Thanks for posting, great blog. I think the crossover days are sort of back, I'm noticing more thrash bands playing gigs with hc/punk/crust etc, at least in the southern Ontario area.

What you don't know is that when the dubbing was done the master was sped up making Troy's voice higher than normal.
